The wonderful imaginative power of
Celtic culture is never more strikingly displayed then in the legends and the fanciful
tales that people from all walks of life seldom tire of telling.
On the roads and in the villages of Ireland, the storyteller is there, and has been for
centuries, ready to recite and repeat his stories at the slightest hint of outside
interest.
He amplifies, explains, and embellish until, from a single fact, a connected history is
evolved, full of fascinating and fantastic characters-- all surrounded by a rosy wreath of
rustic imagery and told with a dramatic force any actor might envy.
I hope to bring you some of these charming stories in the hope that they bring together a
myriad of traditional popular tales, unwritten Celtic literature that highlights the
special relationship of the island's people with unseen and magical creatures of all
kinds, from banshees and leprechauns to fairies and giants. |
